For a thriving community, vote Cath Gilmour

Introducing Cath

My Wakatipu roots are dug in deep. I began spending every holiday here as an Invercargill cribby over 40 years ago. My parents, Ian and Jeannie, retired here in 1987. Dad died in Lakes District Hospital and Mum still lives here.

My husband, John, and I moved here permanently in 1995 and built our home in 2000. Our daughter, Hebe, attends Queenstown School and, like us, loves living here.

I have built a close understanding of the Queenstown community, issues and the way council works over the past 12 years as a local journalist. As a resident, I’ve also taken part in nearly every council workshop and submitted to most draft strategies.

This background and my strong community involvement give me the experience and insight needed to hit the ground running. With several long-term councillors retiring in October, this is a distinct advantage.

What will I bring to the council table?

  • Passion for and commitment to the Wakatipu.
  • An open mind and keen intellect.
  • Integrity and being prepared to stand up for what is right.
  • Ability to ask pertinent questions, investigate issues in depth and from all angles, analyse the facts and make decisions based on these to help our community flourish.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of Wakatipu issues.
  • Energy, drive and a "get things done" attitude.
